Project India was formulated to honor David Smith, a 5-year Marine Corps Veteran who served as an Infantryman and is decorated with a Purple Heart. He suffered severe injuries to his right leg, internal bleeding and a traumatic brain injury while on duty in Afghanistan when a truck near him ran over an IED. These injuries left him with speech pattern issues and a need to relearn how to walk; which he persevered through upon returning home, taking time to recover and rehabilitate. He went on to pursue higher education, graduating from the University of North Texas, studying and writing a thesis on traumatic brain injuries.
